Description: Description This year there will be four family-friendly, river-focused activities to choose from:
1. River Cleanup – Let the wading begin!
CLEAN UP the river by learning what stays, what goes, and what’s habitat. A 35 year tradition!
2. Only Rain Down the Drain!
LEARN about non-point source pollution and PAINT yellow fish beside storm drains as part of Trout Unlimited Canada’s Yellow Fish Road (TM) program.
3. Can you dig it? Tree Planting.
The most effective strategy to keep our rivers cool and healthy is to naturalize the riverbanks with plantings. PLANT trees, MULCH trees planted in the past and LEARN about invasive species and their proper removal.
4. River Revival: Part 1
Join Ontario Streams specialists and Headwaters students in MAPPING, water TESTING, and IDENTIFYING species in the river. Data will be used to assess the health of the river and then to DEVELOP A REVIVAL PLAN for the coming years. Part one of a multi-year project.
Event is rain or shine. Please bring weather activity appropriate gear.
This event is organized as a part of the 2Rivers Festival by OPIRG Guelph and Wellington Water Watchers.
