Description: Food and farming touches so many areas of our lives. They shape and impact our health, environment, culture and economy and it is not simple to identify actions and priorities that balance our needs, goals and constraints, but are also effective and appropriate for the whole community.
The Guelph-Wellington Food Round Table (GWFRT) and Ontario Public Interest Research Group-Guelph (OPIRG) invite you to the first in a series of events focusing on food and farming and the need for a **Food Strategy in Wellington and Guelph. Join us for this free event to hear from a diverse group of community organizations, farmers and engaged citizens as we begin the process of developing a community-led Food Strategy for Wellington and Guelph. Participants will also have an opportunity to provide input as to what they would like to see in our Food Strategy.
Light refreshments will be served, please let us know if you have any food allergies or sensitivities. Child care is available for those that indicate need.
Please note that this event is the first in a series that will take place in Wellington County and Guelph in the next few months. Upcoming events in Erin and Centre Wellington will announced shortly.
**A food strategy provides a coordinated plan for implementing a community vision of a sustainable food system; it is developed by the community and for the community. The food strategy aims to bring together citizens, agriculture and food organizations, farmers, poverty reduction and food access groups, local food businesses, environmental groups, health care, social service and community organizations, students, planners, municipal and county staff, school boards and elected officials. Together, the community will outline specific targets, programs and policies to achieve these priorities.
