Description: Join us to celebrate International Women’s! Day! We are going to have two awesome guest speakers, art display, a resource fair and FREE FOOD!

Guest Speakers:

Dr. Sharada Srinivasan is the Canada Research Chair in Gender, Justice and Development. She explores a wide range of issues including intergenerational feminist leadership practices, regulation of skin-lightening products, women’s empowerment, women and activism, and domestic violence.

“Daughters and gender transformation in India”

She will facilitate a conversation about Daughter deficit and girls’ experiences of gender discrimination and violence in India.

Dr. Paloma Villegas teaches at the department of Sociology and Equity Studies in Education at OISE/ University of Toronto. Her research interests include Im/migration, transnationalism, citizenship, racialization and gender relations. Her current research examines the assemblage and production of migrant illegalization, its role in the production of internal borders, and its interlocking with other markers of social location.

She will engage in a conversation about Immigration Status as constitutive of gender based violence: Mexican Migrants and precarious immigration status in Toronto.
