Description: Why Canada and Europe Chose Different Approaches to the Syrian Crisis:

A public lecture by EDWARD KONING, Ph.D.

More than half of the population of Syria has been either killed or forced to escape the country as a result of the ongoing civil war. How have different countries in the West responded to this crisis? And why is it that in Canada this response has been mostly welcoming and generous, whereas in Europe it has been lukewarm and obstructive? Join Dr. Edward Koning, Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Guelph, to discuss the social and political implications of this crisis and their impact on the ability or willingness of various countries to welcome refugees.
