Description: September 15, 2012 brings the launch of the Guelph Community Orchard Project! Please plan to join us at Harcourt Memorial United Church, 9:30am – 1pm, for tree planting and a community celebration and barbeque.
What is the Guelph Community Orchard Project?
• We are Guelph’s first urban community-shared orchards! Our project will be launched in September with the planting of fruit and nut trees on two urban sites- Guelph Community Christian School, and Harcourt United Church.
• A collaborative project of Transition Guelph, Guelph Urban Forest Friends, Trees for Guelph and other partners, with start-up funding support from Tree Canada
• We aim to increase food security, add to Guelph’s tree canopy and green infrastructure, nurture community relationships, and foster fruit and nut tree awareness through our project. Produce will be shared through local food distribution sites.
• Watch for opportunities to adopt a tree, get involved in planting or promotion, designing with permaculture, and eventually, food workshops with fresh fruit!
